A Tytherington nursery could be set for some major changes.

Marlborough Primary School, part of the Halliard Trust, is looking at taking over the running of Greenhills Pre-School.

Greenhills has offered to 'TUPE' staff over to the trust and essentially create a new, larger, pre-school with more places available.

A spokesperson for the Halliard Trust said: "Working with Halliard Trust, Marlborough Primary School is at the early stages of seeking the necessary permissions to formally pursue the option of running the existing Greenhills Pre-School under the school and trust's governance structures."

It is understood that Marlborough approached the Greenhills a few months ago to say they were looking at opening their own pre-school to help them secure more primary school places in the future.

Meanwhile, Greenhills has been fundraising for several years for a new building.

However, the pre-school says that the government is offering schools grants to increase early years places, leaving them in a 'tricky position'.

The statement reads: "The current government is extremely pro–early years education being provided within school settings, so they are offering grants to schools who can increase the number of early years places, giving them the means to do what we have so far been unable to.

"This places Greenhills Pre-School in a tricky position. We would love to remain an independent, charity-run pre-school, but being based on school grounds means that long-term decisions about buildings and space have to fit with the school's own plans.

"This makes it very hard for us to grow on our own, even though we know there's a real need for more places in our community."

As a result, Greenhills has offered to transfer staff over to the Halliard Trust.

The statement continues: "The team you know and trust would continue to be closely involved in the day-to-day running of the pre-school.

"Marlborough have also shared that they are keen to maintain the ethos that we currently hold at Greenhills.

"Although it would be incredibly sad if Greenhills were to close in its current form, we believe it will be best for us to work together with Marlborough School to create a new, larger pre-school that can offer more places for children in Tytherington and the surrounding area.

"Nothing will be changing straight away.

"At the moment, Marlborough are still developing their proposal, and we will keep you fully updated as things progress.

"Any children who already have their names down with us for future years will still have their place honoured and will be offered a place at the new pre-school if this goes ahead."
