Campaigners take to the streets of Macclesfield to show solidarity with Palestine

Pro-Palestine campaigners took to the streets of Macclesfield to make their voices heard.
Thousands of runners should have taken to the streets of Bethlehem on Friday, April 17, for the 10th Palestine Marathon, which takes place under the shadow of the separation wall.
However, due the ongoing conflict, the marathon once again had to be postponed.
In it's place, the Amos Trust has organised 'Run The Wall', which sees communities around the world run or walk in solidarity with Palestine over the same weekend even when the actual Palestine Marathon isn't able to take place.
Here in Macclesfield, a group of 25 gathered in the town centre to Walk the Wall.
A spokesperson said: "We completed two circuits of the town centre, speaking to people we passed, and raising awareness of the situation in Palestine and the West Bank, where Israeli forces have been intensifying their military operations, and violence by settlers is increasing.
"Most checkpoints between neighbourhoods are closed, so normal daily activities for most people are even more time consuming and at times impossible.
"Israeli settlers are entering Palestinian villages and farmland, openly carrying weapons and attacking Palestinians in their cars.
"Palestinians say that it feels as if step by step, Israeli forces and settlers are taking over.
"They are frightened because they have no control and they say that it feels as if the world doesn't care about what happens to them.
"Slowly Palestinian land is shrinking, checkpoint by checkpoint, road by road, house by house.
"Humanitarian Law is clear: as the occupying power, Israel has a legal responsibility to ensure the protection of civilians. It is not doing this."
