Macclesfield Liberal Democrats have selected Neil Christian as their candidate for the next general election.

Neil previously stood in 2015 and 2019 and has achieved strong support from voters who feel unrepresented by the current main parties.

Neil explained; "I have stood for Parliament twice in this wonderful constituency. That was a great honour."

"I have worked with brilliant local campaigners and a great team to twice beat the national Lib Dem vote average and on the last occasion significantly increase the vote share taking votes from both the Conservatives and Labour.

"All at difficult historical times for our Party. I hope to continue to grow a Lib Dem team in the constituency and build for electoral success. By doing so I believe we can make the constituency a better place for all."

"When I talk to voters in the Macclesfield area it is clear an alternative to Conservatives or Labour is needed.

"This constituency has a strong centrist Conservative vote, and those voters feel strongly that Labour are not the alternative for their vote.

"The Lib Dems' values and policies for businesses, on taxation and their unwavering support for our woefully abandoned NHS, social care and education systems mean they are the obvious choice for those who want to walk away from their traditional Tory vote."

The next UK General Election will take place no later than January 28 2025.

Macclesfield Liberal Democrats told Macclesfield Nub News in a statement: "Neil is a barrister, practising in family law from Chambers in Manchester. He has spent his life representing people and will be a strong and effective advocate for our constituency."

"In 2019, the Liberal Democrats almost doubled their previous vote and Neil was the only candidate to gain votes compared to 2017, with all the other parties losing numbers.*

Neil is the fourth candidate to be confirmed to stand in the next UK General Election for Macclesfield. Labour confirmed their candidate Tim Roca at the end of last year, the Green Party selected Amanda Iremonger in October, whereas current Macclesfield parliamentarian and Conservative David Rutley MP will be seeking to make it five election victories in a row.

Beyond the four aforementioned parities, candidates from other parties or independents, have not yet been confirmed.

Neil Connan Christian recieved 3,842 votes when he first stood in 2015, and 5,684 votes when he ran for parliament in 2019.

Neil did not stand in 2017, where Liberal Democrat candidate Richard Dominic Flowers recieved 3,350 votes.
