A former resident of Bollington has won gold at the Paralympics in Paris.

Swimmer Stephen Clegg (28) won the S12 100-meter backstroke event, taking gold.

He also set a new world record with a time of 59.02. Azerbaijan and Ukraine took the silver and bronze.

It is his first ever gold in the Paralympics, and his fourth medal overall. He got bronze in the same race and category three years ago, when participating in Tokyo.

Now, he has done even better, and set a world record in the process. Well done Stephen!

Stephen started para swimming in 2014. The visually impaired athlete has Stargardt disease, which his sister Libby has as well.
