Despite the cost of living crisis, small businesses in Bollington have done their bit for the community.

A trio of local independent businessespeople have scaled the UK's second biggest mountain, in aid of a Bollington church.

The fundraising challenge was organised by Bollington's Treks to the Wrecks and the Bollington Hearing Centre, in order to raise money for St. Oswald's Church in Bollington.

Mark Lomas, Emma Pangelly, and Claire Kewney took on the Welsh peak late last month, to afford new audio-visual equipment which will improve accessibility to the church's events and services.

They have raised an amazing £2655 for the Bollington Cross place of worship. And you can still donate on this link.

Claire explained why they decided to do it:

"We wanted to raise much needed funds for St Oswalds Church in Bollington," said Claire.

"St. Oswalds church is a special place in the community of Bollington. The building is beautiful, historical, flexible and welcoming. Modern audio equipment will increase its accessibility to the community and enhance services and events, especially with the schools and young people.

"There is very caring and loving need for AV equipment as anyone in Bollington and the surrounding areas can turn to St Oswalds to hold a funeral and increasingly, bereaved families want to show precious videos and photos of their loved one.

As Bollington Hearing Centre is in the heart of Bollington, our job is to ensure people can communicate.

"We wanted to help raise much needed funds so that anyone accessing the service can hear as well as see what is being featured, and to minimise the cost to [grieving] families such as funerals and celebrations by not having to hire equipment to support the event."

At least 104 people have donated to the crowdfunder, which is still accepting donations towards a £5000 goal on this link.

"We made it to the summit and back down safely," added Emma.

Mark and I own Bollington outdoor activity-based business Treks to the Wrecks, so lead the event to ensure the safety of the group.

"We wanted to raise as much money for the community as possible.

"It was an early 4am start on Friday morning with the aim of catching a sunrise, and straight away we were battling through some tough weather – rain, wind, fog and hail. That didn't dampen anyone's spirits though – lots of laughs and banter all the way.

a team of staff from bollington hearing centre did the challenge along with some friends of the organisers.

"It's such a shame we didn't get to see a sunrise in the end, but that's the great British weather for you!

"Thank you to everyone that has donated so far."

St. Oswald's Church will be contacted for comment.
