A Macclesfield brewer are amongst the big names at a beer festival just a short train ride away.

If you can't wait until next month's Bollington Beer Festival or Wincle Beer Festival, there will be another beer festival in another one of Macclesfield's nearby town THIS MONTH.

The Stockport Beer & Cider Festival will be held at the Masonic Guildhall on Wellington Rd South, this weekend.

The event will begin from Thursday 22 June from 5.30pm the festival will continue on Friday 23 and Saturday 24 June from noon.

Over 250 beers, ciders and perries will be available for thirsty customers to try. There will be around 150 cask ales from around the country including some from local breweries such as Robinsons, Stockport Brewing and Steelfish.

But turning eyes for Macclesfield real ale and cider lovers will be RedWillow.

The 13-year-old brewery, with a presence on Park Green and Byrons Lane will be one of a few local brewers there.

They will have five interesting beers including a new summer pale ale, a Foeder Lager, aged in cherry-wood barrels, and a Baltic Porter.

Macc drinkers will also recognise Congleton's Beartown Brewery, who will also be there.

The festival special beer has been brewed by Neighbourhood Brewing in Poynton.

The Milliner Sessions is a pale ale named by customers at one of their regular outlets, the Milliner Bar in Davenport.

In addition, there will be around 20 beers from breweries in Kent and the South Coast which have never been seen in Stockport before. As well as the elegant 'Bar Nouveau' upstairs, where you will find respected local breweries such as Blackjack, Marble, Runaway, Thirst Class and Torrside to brew their beers.

One of RedWillow's beers there will be a whopping 8.8%.

You will also find the Walthew House charity stall upstairs; they have beer on sale, as well as snacks and soft drinks.

If you are feeling hungry, the Festival offers food in the form of pies, burgers and curry from The Guildhall Kitchen, or pizzas from the stand outside. Vegetarian options are available.

Bands will be playing every day in the concert room, covering a range of music from soul and R'n'B to through indie and ska.

Festival organiser Jim Flynn said "This is our 35th festival, which has now become major event in the life of the town. Thanks to all our sponsors, along with the hundred-plus volunteers from CAMRA, who give up their free time to make it all happen. We have a wide range of drinks, food and music to entertain you, so I hope you are able to come along."

Admission costs £4 for entry (£2 for CAMRA members), and souvenir glasses and t-shirts will be available. You can also join CAMRA at the festival and enjoy additional benefits, including free beer!
