Macclesfield: Wincle Beer Festival set to be biggest one yet
This summer's Wincle Beer Festival is back and bigger than ever.
The annual event taking place this year on July 7 and July 8, back for its ninth edition.
Giles Meadows started the Festival in 2011, not long after he founded Wincle Brewery.
"Its claim to fame is it is in the top five most picturesque beer festivals in the country," said Giles.
"It is very family friendly. Everybody is welcome.
"It is a very relaxed, chilled out nice place to come and spend the day.
"This year we have over 40 beers and ciders. Most of the beer is local.
"We have great relationships with other breweries who throughout the year support each other.
"Eight of the beers will be ours, and the rest will be guest beers.
"One of the beers called the Drayman's Special is exclusive to the Festival, it is a high percentage ale that will raise money for charity."
The brewers that will be joining Wincle Brewery at the Wincle Beer Festival range from Cheshire brewers like Macclesfield's Storm Brewery and Red Willow Brewery, to those from further afar.
Happy Valley Brewery of Macclesfield's Oxford Road will also be there, as will Congleton's Beartown Brewery.
Over in Derbyshire there are High Peak brewers Peak Ales and Torrside who will be at Wincle Beer Festival.
There's also Spitting Feathers, Titanic, and Burton Bridge Brewery.
Rounding out the line-up there's a Black Country brewery called Bathams, which has some of Giles' personal favourite tipples.
All of the independent brewers are of a similar size to Wincle Brewery.
"I think it is good to help each other out," Giles added.
"How it works is you come in, get your festival glass included within the price of the ticket, and then you can pay for tokens which covers your pints or halves.
"As well as plenty of excellent beer we will be having a Gin, Wine and Prosecco Bar featuring first class gin from Macclesfield's Forest Gin and an excellent selection of Wines from Raise the Bar Wines in Chapel-en-le-Frith.
"There will be lots of live music, ranging from local bands like Bollington Brass Band to the Stockport Ukulele Band.
"Macclesfield's The Tegg's Nosepickers will be playing great beer-drinking songs. There's a bit of folk in the line-up as well, it is quite an eclectic mix under a big marquee.
"We hold a tug of war, which has become a tradition, organised with Bosley Tug of War.
"There's also face painting for kids, but the best activities for them is to just run around in this beautiful surroundings. We have a stream next to the field, and the kids love to play with the tug of war rope after.
"We expect 1000 people to attend this year. You can either come on one or two days, and even camp if you like.
"We have 30 of our 180 camping pitches left, please reserve them to avoid disappointment.
"It costs £30 per pitch for two nights, Friday and Saturday. You can turn up from anytime at 12pm, with no urgency to clear off on the Sunday as Wincle Brewery will still be open and serving customers.
"If you are not staying the night, it costs just £10 for both days. For that you get your glass, which you can take home. Children can come for free. We'll hold some tickets on the day if we don't sell out."
The food vendors will be Butcher's Block in Poynton, and curry from a local Indian food stall.
There will also be stalls for oatcakes, Malaysian food and pizza.
As the Festival takes place on the field opposite Wincle Brewery, you can see and smell where many of the beers to be enjoyed have been brewed.
"There's a great sense of achievement from hosting the Festival," revealed Giles.
"I enjoy the fact that people come from all other the place. This year, we've already got guests coming from Cornwall confirmed, and some from Inverness. So that's all over the country covered.
"The event is great for local people too. There's a real buzz about the village, many people who live here have family come over to stay just so they can come to the Festival, and make it a special event for them.
"We create a real community vibe. Thank you to everyone who has helped make it happen over the years, and we can't wait to see you there this July."
