With the new year now in full swing, it's time to celebrate the everyday heroes of 2025.

Across Macclesfield, countless members of our community went above and beyond last year, raising funds and awareness for a wide range of important causes.

Below, we highlight just a few local Samaritans whose acts of generosity helped remind us what it means to put others first.

Remember, this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to kind-hearted residents in Macclesfield. Share your heroes of 2025 in the comments!

Henry Moores

Back in April, Henry Moores embarked on his latest fundraising challenge.

Over the course of 12 weeks, he walked all the way from Manchester to Ibiza.... in flip flops.

Inspired by Florence Bark, who was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2022, Henry took on the 1,200-mile trek to raise money for BeMoreFab.

Having raised over £55,000, Henry's efforts were recognised with the Social for Good Award at the JustGiving Awards.

Father and son Alan and Stuart Bailey organised the first Hospice Rocks concert at Cinemac in September.

They did so to raise money for East Cheshire Hospice, where Alan's wife and Stuart's mother Maureen spent her final days back in March.

The concert, headlined by the Virginmarys, raised over £11,000 for the charity.

Alan and Stuart celebrated by getting matching tattoos featuring the Virginmarys logo, the East Cheshire Hospice sunflower and Maureen's nickname, 'Mo'.

Donna Reese

Donna Reese, a sister and training facilitator at Macclesfield District General Hospital, scaled Mount Kilimanjaro earlier this year.

In doing so, she raised vital funds for the emergency department, where she has worked for 25 years.

But the challenge was also a very personal one for Donna, who took it on as a tribute to her mum.

Here, Donna reflects on the emotional journey.

Emma Marks

Emma Marks completed a 29-mile ultramarathon in September, raising over £4,000 for Cancer Research.

This would be no easy feat anyways, never mind the fact Emma only rang the bell to signal the end of her own cancer treatment a few weeks before.

"It was just about gaining my life back, because you lose so much of it when you're having treatment" she said.

Adam Schofield

Adam Schofield, who trades as Adam Francis Illustrator, launched his 2025 Macclesfield charity Christmas cards in November.

This year, he donated 25% of his profits to the Macclesfield Armed Forces and Veterans Breakfast Club.

Over the past five years, Adam, who is also the chairman of the board at the Rossendale Trust, has raised over £2,300 for local charities through his Christmas card sales.

Tom Stott

On New Year's Eve, Tom Stott completed his challenge of running 10km every day for 500 consecutive days.

Having previously struggled with gambling addiction, Tom began running to raise money for the mental health charity, Mind.

Along the way, he even broke the world record for the quickest half marathon while wearing Crocs.

You can read more about Tom's challenge here.
