Macclesfield: 2021 was a fantastic year for our high street. Despite our town facing forms of coronavirus lockdown for half the year, we've seen new businesses open and flourish in our town.

While there are still some empty units that need filling, there have been some amazing new enterprises opening in our town throughout 2021.

In no particular order, here are 25 new stores, cafes, bars and more that opened in Macclesfield this year.

Cakeface by James, 205 Buxton Road

On May 31, a Tytherington young entrepreneur opened his own coffee and cake shop in Macclesfield. James Hallworth launched his company less than a year after finishing his business degree. James was just 21 when his cake and coffee shop opened, now 22, he is set for a super 2022, as one of three new ventures on Buxton Road (one of which, is also on this list). Macclesfield's newest cornershop has over 50% local produce, and opened in the summer

Macclesfield Nub News were the first to cover Collier's On the Corner on Brock Street in Macclesfield.

Owner Mike Collier offers a personal service and knows all his regular customers by name.

Proper Sound, 8 Chestergate

Another one of our most-read articles of the year, Proper Sound opened in October. You may have caught the eye-catching Oasis mural in the shopfront window, but what is actually inside? The music, art, and apparel store is great for buying gifts, or to have a quality cup of coffee. Read our article with Co-Founder James King here. Crag Springwater Water Tasting, Wildboarclough

In rural Macclesfield, The Crag Inn launched a water tasting experience in 2021.

Certified water sommelier and pub owner Doran Binder will guide you through some of the world's most nutritious waters, as well as serving you his own spring water bottled at source in the very same pub.

In what would make a great day out for a weekend, you can book the affordable 30-minute and 60-minute water tasing courses on 01260 227239, starting from just £10 per person.

Achaari Takeaway, 42 Hurdsfield Road

2021 was been an incredible year for Macclesfield takeaway Achaari. New owners took over and rebranded the Indian takeaway in January. Throughout the year, the Hurdsfield lads donated food to Macclesfield District General Hospital, to support NHS workers. In September, they won an award declaring them the Best Asian Takeaway in the North West. Keen supporters of Macclesfield Nub News, we look forward to working with them in 2022. They also won an English Curry Award the following month. And you can follow them here. Yas Bean, 219 Buxton Road From a wagon in Tytherington churchyard, to a presence in The Vale Inn beer garden in the summer. Dan and Mika founded their mobile coffee business in 2020 to quick success, so naturally wanted a physical store next. Their store opposite the Buxton Road Co-op offers grab-and-go lunches, coffees, and bakes. Since our trio of Nub News stories, Yas Bean have even been featured in national newspaper The Guardian. Read our most recent article with Yas Bean here. Their premises regularly champions local artists and independent craft sellers. Here is their Facebook to follow. The Copper Room, Chestergate 60-62 Opening in July, The Copper Room opened after raising over £43,000 on Kickstarter earlier in the year. The fancy-yet-affordable restaurant and bar is situated inside Charles Roe House, the former home of the Macclesfield industrialist. Their quality-over-quantity European menu also includes roast dinners on a Sunday. The family-ran restaurant first spoke to Macclesfield Nub News in April. Synergy Dental Practice, 115 Chestergate

An award-winning chain of dentists came to Chestergate on November 17, opened by Mayor Cllr David Edwardes.

They offer implants, teeth straightening, composite bonding, cosmetic dentistry, fillings and dentures.

They also have a hygienist as well as facial aesthetic treatment experts, as a one-stop shop for your face in Macc.

Ethos Concept Store, 34 Chestergate

Vegan cafe and lifestyle store Ethos opened in April 2021, as coronavirus restrictions began to ease. Co-founder Adonis Norouznia, who is originally from Santorini, fell in love with Macclesfield and decided to open his first business in our town. In August, they raised over £500 and helped out those who were affected by the Greek wildfires which ravaged the town of Evia. They also provide decorated cakes and baby classes. Follow them here. Browns Antiques And Salvage, 59 Park Lane

With a soft opening in November, and full opening in December, Macclesfield's newest antiques store was the last new shop to open in 2021.

They're also into furniture restoration, and can be followed on Facebook.

The Brunch Box Cafe, 106 Westminster Road

On Wednesday March 24 2021, The Brunch Box Cafe opened to a takeout service only. Now, they welcome families inside for breakfast, lunch, snacks & drinks. They even sell afternoon tea. You can follow them on Facebook. The Fountain, 32 Park Green

Bollington Brewery's new cafe bar and roastery The Fountain opened at the end of Park Green in October.

They didn't respond to our requests for an article, but we'd still love to work with them in the future!

Room for Comics, Market Place

You may recognise his work from Cinemac's social media, or your kids primary school. Talented comic artist Marc Jackson, opened up a hub for comic book art in September. It is located behind Flour Water Salt, and will be a great space to get kids into comics on the weekends, or for school trips. The launch ceremony for the hub ran by the Macclesfield creative was attended by The Walking Dead's Charlie Adlard. You can learn more about Marc and Room for Comics here. Acacia Tree, 125 Chestergate

Acacia Tree had a quiet opening in the height of the 2021 lockdown. Since, the 125 Chestergate plant-powered company has provided a welcoming atmosphere and nutritious working lunches.

They made their Treacle Market debut in October, seven months after their March opening. We love their vegan ham and mustard sandwich, as well as their olive focaccia.

Legacy Funeral Care, 154 Hurdsfield Road

A recent addition, and another in Hurdsfield, Legacy Funeral Care opened their doors in November, with a new chapel named after a family they recently helped. They were already operating from the building the previous November, however, they lacked signage and had not announced it to our town, so a ceremony was held one year on instead. Follow them on Facebook here. No. 8 Dukes, Dukes Court

Registered as a company in late 2020, but only able to open once coronavirus restrictions ended in 2021, No. 8 Dukes is a trendy bar opened by young Macclesfield entrepreneur Kyle Frost.

The wine and cocktail bar has over 5,000 followers on social media.

#Thepaintshop, Fence Avenue

Based on Unit 9 of the Fence Industrial Estate, #Thepaintshop opened in August 2021, with plans to open a second branch in 2022. You can follow them on Facebook Prime Cut Bar and Grill, 3 Castle Street

Filling in a vacant space once used by a building society which closed over a decade ago, Prime Cut Bar and Grill opened November.

From gold-tinged steak to veggie and vegan options, the family eatery opened shortly after the refurbishment of Castle Street, which cost Cheshire East almost £2 million pounds.

Courthouse Collective, Park Green

Not a physical store you can go in, but you've probably seen their artwork in just about every business in Macclesfield. The Courthouse Collective is a spin-off company of Macclesfield creative agency Matmi. They create gorgeous artwork of Macclesfield landmarks, which you can buy from Treacle Market's and in various Macclesfield shops. Follow them on Facebook. The Cheshire Gap, 87 Mill Street

The Cheshire Gap relaunched itself in October, with a new alcohol licence and refurbishment of the beloved deli.

They are now hosting karaoke and board game events, as well as offering fresh food and a bakes.

The Castle Inn, 25-27 Church Street

One of the few pubs in Macclesfield with a Wikipedia page, the historic 18th century inn reopened in September. It was last closed in 2014, but has a new lease of life hosting quizzes, live music and great local beer. Read our chat with The Castle's Rebecca Prunty here. Fiore Mio, 2-5 Pickford Street

Technically located in Malborough Court, quality pizza and pasta are served at this authentic Italian.

Stealth Gymnasium / Bar Twenty-Seven, Moss Road

Slightly cheating this one, as we're rolling two into one, but Macclesfield FC opened two new ventures in 2021.

First was Bar Twenty-Seven, Macclesfield FC's official bar which opened in May.

Stealth Gymnasium opened three months later claiming to be the 'most prestigious gym in Macclesfield'.

And that was (almost) every new thing to open in Macclesfield in 2021.
