In the month that Macclesfield gained one new bistro, but lost an old one, we went to the bistro that has been in Macclesfield for the longest, to find out the secret of their success.

Chestergate Bistro, located opposite the new 45 flat complex coming on Chestergate's west side, has been running for the past 14 years.

The central Macclesfield business has just launched a new menu.

The evening-only restaurant is predominantly inspired by French flavours, with confit duck and a croissant eggs Benedict being highlights on the menu, but is also not averse to carefully-crafted global flavours.

Other dishes include tandoori spiced corn-fed chicken breast with tzatziki and ratatouille accompaniments, along with tempura king prawns.

Restauraunter and Macclesfield resident Santosh Jani said: "We're so privileged to serve our customers".

"We try our hardest to keep our consistency in our food."

Chestergate's west side has seen food-based gentrification in recent years with trendy, upmarket eateries such as Suburban Green and Wood Fire Smoke. But Chestergate Bistro have been trailblazers on this, serving fine dining on your doorstep since 2009.

The business will be celebrating their 15th anniversary next year.

"We are really great value for money. People tell us our food is Michelin quality, at the pride of normal restaurant dining," added Santosh.

"Every single plate that goes through the table, goes through four different chefs, at an affordable price. Where else can you get that?"

The Macclesfield restaurant has consistently been ranked as one of the best places to eat in Macclesfield, and surrounding areas, boasting 4.5 stars.

This is according to TripAdvisor. They are also rated 4.8/5 on Google Reviews.

One of the 278 Google Reviews calls it a 'little gem of a place' with 'Fab food and great service'.

The dish which crops up the most in their reviews, is their Aberdeen Angus fillet steak.

The 7oz cut comes with baked mushroom, tomatoes, and roasted garlic. But this is no decorative clove.

The garlic bulb is a showpiece, talking point and icebreaker. But it isn't just there to make good dinner chat.

The whole bulb of garlic when squeezed, is unleashed onto the steak, and with its oil and oregano-packed flavours, pairs perfectly with the succulent steak and accompanying jus.

"Our steak is our best seller, we have so much pride in our steak, it is like on another level", added Santosh.

"People love our chicken liver pâté which has been on the menu for what feels like centuries.

"That along with the steak, and the creme brûlée are dishes that will never leave our menu.

"We also sell a lot of scallops and tempura prawns."

The restaurant makes everything from scratch, with the word 'frozen' being sacrosanct.

This fresh-only ethos even distills to the little things. Each meal is kickstarted with three canapés, which rotate each day, and are all high-skilled dishes which put the diner at ease that their meal is about to be nothing short of top notch.

Even the supplementary fries, which can come with every main, get attention to detail with truffle oil and shavings to complement.

Their chefs even go through the laborious effort to make tiny little balls of elderflower flavoured caviar, a process which takes nothing short of hours, and it is merely the garnish their chicken liver pate starter.

Head chef Danny, who has worked here for both the current and previous owners, has honed a small but high-skilled menu, at a reasonable price.

From Tuesday to Thursday, two courses cost £27, three courses £33. And from Friday and Saturday, two courses costs £29, whereas three is £35.

Desserts include a creme brûlée, with a boozy kick and decoration of a chocolate hazelnut praline, along with sticky toffee pudding.

Passion in the menu items is clear to see, and the restaurant's ambience is equally romantic.

Pair these dishes with an international wine or Macclesfield's Forest Gin, and you have a top contender for one of Macclesfield's most luxury date nights.

Other local produce includes Cheshire Ice Cream, which is served with every dessert.

Chestergate Bistro have entered a partnership with Macclesfield Nub News, with Chestergate Bistro wishing to raise awareness of their business, in particular to those who aren't from the centre of Macclesfield. Such as places like Adlington and Bollington.

"I've been here for one-and-a-half years", explained east Macclesfield resident Santosh.

"We have five permanent staff, four temporary, and are currently hiring.

"My favourite part about the job is making the customer happy.

"People say I am too emotionally involved, but I take great pride in that.

"For me the restaurant business is about making the customer feel welcome, like it is an event, they feel a part of something.

"It is that moment when the wine glass goes down a certain level, and someone is right there to ask them if they want extra wine.

"That small thing, goes a long way. We had a man who had travelled the world and told us it was the best food and service they'd ever had."
