Macclesfield Labour have revealed the four candidates that have been shortlisted to stand for Labour in the next General Election.

As confirmed by some of the candidates online, TomorrowsMPs on X, and an anonymous source, one of these four people could be Macclesfield's next MP:

  • Peter DSouza
  • Steve Kay
  • Tim Roca
  • Judy Snowball

Labour finished second in the 2019 General Election, falling 19.9% behind the Conservatives.

Neil Puttick was the candidate in the 2019 General Election, a resident of Macclesfield itself.

Interestingly, two of the candidates in this survey are residents of Disley and Bollington, which are of course part of the Macclesfield constituency, but it would mark a shift in where the General Election Labour candidate lives in the constituency.

Tim Roca previously ran for General Election in 2015, getting 22.7% of the vote as runner-up, which was 29.8% less of the vote than the Conservatives did with David Rutley MP who got 52.7% of the vote.

If Judy Snowball is selected, she would also be the first woman Macclesfield Labour have selected to contest a General Election since Janet Jackson OBE ran and finished second to Sir Nicholas Winterton MP in 1997.

Labour will choose a sole candidate in the coming days. Macclesfield Labour have been contacted for comment.

The Liberal Democrats are also currently in the process of choosing their nomination, with a candidate likely to be announced before the end of the year.

The Greens and Conservatives have already revealed their candidates.

Macclesfield's current MP, David Rutley will be running again in the next UK General Election, taking place in 2024 or January 2025.

The Macclesfield Constituency map covers Macclesfield, and Bollington in the centre, Poynton, Newtown and Disley in the north, Kettleshulme and Macc Forest parishes to the east, Bosley and Eaton to the South, as well as Siddington, Marton, Eaton and Mottram to the West.
