In what has been a turbulent month for Mill Street, another commercial property has come to market.

A central Macclesfield retail unit is now available to let.

36 Mill Street, last used by Tim Roca MP and his campaign, is back on the rental market.

The premises was last used as a campaign office, and shop window to promote the campaign of the Labour politician, before he was elected as Macclesfield's MP at the July 2024 General Election.

The space was took on before the general election, and later opened by Emily Thornberry MP on the same date political rival Lord Cameron visited Macclesfield. A similar campaign strategy was deployed in nearby Crewe for the also-elected Connor Naismith MP, and across the country.

Before the political purpose of the premises, it was previously occupied by The Wardrobe women's clothes shop.

However, the independent fashion retailer opted to move out of 36 Mill Street, in favour of a new location on Queen Victoria Street.

Fast-forward to today, a new entrepreneur can rent the space for £35,000 per annum.

It is on the market with Macclesfield's Hallams Property Consultants.

The listing reads: "A prime retail unit sat on one of Macclesfield's busiest streets, in the heart of the town. The building is located close to the Grosvenor shopping scheme which has attracted several new cafes and retailers to the location.

"Macclesfield Railway and Bus Stations are approximately three-minute walk from the property.

"Situated in the heart of Macclesfield's retail environment, 36 Mill Street provides an excellent opportunity to occupy retail space in this thriving location within the town.

"The premises are available by way of a new full repairing and insuring lease for a term of years to be negotiated."

Interestingly, the last time Nub News reported on the listing of this premises, the rent was £25,000 per annum.

Today, that figure is £10,000 more.

However, the numbers of the square footage offered today, is also different from what was offered last November when the premises previously became vacant. (Source)

The new listing comes at a turbulent time for Mill Street, with the closure of Superdrug happening just a few doors down this month, and the announcement of the forthcoming closure of Lloyds Bank.

Tim Roca MP, who has previously been quizzed by Macclesfield Nub News about his plans for this space after the election, was contacted for comment.

A member of Tim Roca's team told Macclesfield Nub News: "The current premises on Mill Street were rented for the General Election and funded through donations made to the campaign."

"As all MP offices are funded by the taxpayer, Tim felt it was important to choose a space that was more affordable and, importantly, within the budget set by the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority.

"Tim's new office is down the road from the previous campaign shop and meets the recommended security requirements set out by the Parliamentary Security Team.

"Tim will be working with local partners to encourage the revitalisation of Macclesfield town centre. He backs Labour's plans for small business, which have been endorsed by Dragon's Den investors Deborah Meaden and Theo Paphitis."
