While we're got just over a week to go until the biggest event of December - Christmas Day - there is still plenty of fantastic events to do in the days before the 25th.

Here's the best things to do in Macclesfield this weekend, from December 17 to December 19.

Don't forget, you can promote your own event in Macclesfield for FREE on the Macclesfield Nub News What's On section.

  1. Live Rock: Yopo and Between Thorns

Two brilliant Macclesfield bands. Yopo is alternative rock band with a softer Lou Reed-like vocals, while Between Thorns are one of the most-streamed bands from Macc at the moment.

The Swan with Two Necks will host both acts on Saturday from 8pm to 11:30pm.

And there will be a few seasonal tunes thrown in the mix as well.

Other concerts include a homecoming show for Phil Cunningham (Marion, New Order) performing with his new band Sea Fever at Mash, as well as ABBA Revival on Roe Street. Both of which are on Friday.

  1. Adlington Petting Farm Christmas Event

From 8am to 5pm on Saturday, Canalside Farm in Adlington will be hosting an animal petting event, with a festive twist.

You can cuddle guinea pigs and rabbits, feeding goats and alpacas, as well as trips to see barn owls and Father Christmas himself.

Just head to Wood Lane East, Macclesfield SK10 4PH. You can pay as you get there.

You can also visit during the same opening hours on Sunday.

  1. Elf at Shrigley Hall

The 2003 Christmas classic Elf will be shown at a Macclesfield country house this weekend.

The movie starring Will Ferrell and Zooey Deschanel will be shown at Shrigley Hall Hotel & Spa on Shrigley Road, Macclesfield.

Just head there for 2pm on Sunday, and show the festive film to your kids for perhaps the first-time!

They'll be a big screen, ice cream, popcorn and soft drinks included within your ticket. Costing £20 for adults, a tenner per kid. You can pay on the door.

  1. Treacle Market

It probably won't snow this Treacle Market, infact the weather says it will be mostly cloudy.

So it is the perfect time to complete the Christmas shopping you couldn't get too during last month's windy and wintry flurry.

Stocking fillers, Christmas veggies, and festive music. And of course, plenty of mulled wine. What's not to love?

  1. Traditional Christmas Events at St. Michael's

After the Treacle Market on Sunday, festive traditions will be held at St Michael's Church.

At 6.30pm, there will be a service of lessons and carols led by the wonderful St. Michael's choir.

The church said: "Because of the current concerns over the pandemic we have had to restrict numbers attending.

"Booking is essential, and can be done via the church website.

"This service is very likely to be full. However, it can also be enjoyed virtually both live and after the event on the church YouTube channel, by clicking here.

There will be mulled wine and mince pies after the candlelit carol service.

And that should be all of the best events happening in Macc this weekend.
