Don't expect HSBC to shut in Macclesfield anytime soon
It looks like HSBC have reaffirmed their commitment to having a brick-and-mortar bank in Macclesfield for another year.
HSBC, of Castle Street, have just had a planning application approved, which was submitted at the start of the year.
It concerned "Replacement of the existing external through the wall machines with new model."
Additionally, a "New replacement advertisement to external machines" is sought, indicating their cash machine isn't going anywhere either, despite our society trundling towards the way of card-only payment.
Cheshire East Council have just green-lit the plans, ten months after they were submitted.
While not explicitly confirmed by the bank, these new plans getting the go-ahead would indicate that HSBC have no plans to shut their bank in Macclesfield any time soon.
Halifax was previously confirmed to stay in Macclesfield until 2024, meanwhile Macclesfield's Santander, Natwest, Nationwide, Lloyds, and Co-op Bank have survived sweeping cuts across the country of physical high street banks closing their doors.
Two banks left the high street of Macclesfield last year Virgin Money and RBS. Barclays shut earlier this year, but remains a presence in Macclesfield Library.
