There is a new event for Macclesfield's summer calendar, and it is taking place next month!

Summer Days is a new neighbourhood street party, held on Chestergate (between Churchill Way and Bridge Street) on Saturday June 29.

The event, on Chestergate's west side, takes place from 12-6pm.

It is free to attend and all are welcome.

While the east side of Chestergate is pedestrianised for most of the day, Chestergate's west side has a road going through it all day, so this event will be a unique way to enjoy one of Macclesfield's key high street areas.

The event is organised by Macclesfield resident Louise Bullock, who has a gift shop, Loola Loves, inside the part of Chestergate where the event is taking place.

Macclesfield Nub News spoke to Louise to find out more about Summer Days.

"We're planning a day filled with live music, DJ's and dancing," said Louise.

"There will be food and drink available from the local cafes, restaurants and bars, with outdoor seating so everyone can sit and enjoy the atmosphere.

"Local businesses will be running special workshops, exhibitions and offers.

"There will also be fun games and activities for everyone to enjoy, along with a charity raffle. The event will be in support of local charity Just Drop In, supporting children and young people in our area.

"It's a free event and all are welcome!"

Chestergate's west side has seen exciting new businesses open in recent years, from a bohemian hotel with brunch spot, to a family pizzeria.

The event will celebrate this, and the independent spirit of Macclesfield's high street.

"We're encouraging businesses along this stretch of Chestergate to get involved in any way that they can, to add to the array of activities available on the day," told Louise.

"For example, The Monocle Café will be holding an art exhibition, The Chestergate will be offering a Brazilian BBQ and Honest Crust Pizza will be running their popular pizza making workshops at The Depot.

"Once the party comes to a close, there will be lots of bars and venues remaining open, for everyone to continue into the evening.

"I'd like to thank everyone who has supported this event so far. Everyone involved has really embraced the idea of community over competition, to make our event the best it can be."

There are hopes that this could be an annual event, and it isn't the only ambitious event with plans to cement itself into Macclesfield's summer calendar in June. As there is a big charity BBQ also planned for Macclesfield Rugby Club the weekend before.

Louise will also have some exciting news to share about her own business - Loola Loves - soon. Perhaps in time for the June 29 event!

When pressed about why she has decided to create a new event in Macclesfield's summer calendar, Louise had this to say:

"Over the past ten years I have been involved in lots of town centre events and groups, including Totally Locally Macclesfield, Barnaby Festival, TedX, the Clothes Show and more," she explained.

"Nothing makes me happier than seeing the community come together and enjoying what our town has to offer.

"I've wanted to put on an event myself for a long time; one that would help bring people into the town and give our local businesses a chance to shine.

"I'm so proud to be a part of the Macclesfield High Street and the summer is the perfect time to celebrate that!"

When asked about what Louise loves about Macclesfield's high street, and why she is such a champion for it, Louise responded: "Macclesfield town centre has changed substantially over recent years, but the one thing that has continued to keep the high street alive is the abundance of small independent businesses."

"I'm lucky to be a part of that community and wouldn't want to be anywhere else. We're incredibly lucky to have so much variety on our high street, despite what some believe. Explore our town centre beyond Mill Street and you'll see what I mean.

"This section of Chestergate where we are hosting Summer Days is home to my business, Loola Loves and is lined with fantastic independent businesses.

"There's a lively, friendly atmosphere here and I feel that more people should explore our little corner of the town. Some time ago I watched a reel of drone footage from Treacle Market, showing the bustling crowds across the town centre. I noticed though just how many people would walk along the pedestrianised section of Chestergate, get to Churchill Way and turn back around.

"I want to give people the opportunity to come along, spend some time here and connect with the wonderful neighbourhood we have."

Summer Days takes place from noon on Saturday June 29.

The event can be followed on Instagram and Facebook.

The new event will coincide with the also recently-announced 1261 Festival.
