Amid Facebook commenters' doom and gloom, along with the cost of living crisis, it is easy to forget that a lot of big name businesses are keen to move in to our town.

And while we have already done a list profiling 23 independent businesses which opened in Macclesfield this year, as part of our year-end round-ups, we thought we'd do another list of national chains which opened up in Macclesfield in 2023.

Here's five big name businesses which joined Macclesfield's high street this year.

GAME

The years have gone where GAME have their own high street stores.

In 2011, their Macclesfield store on 25 Mill Street (where similar shop CEX now stands) closed their doors.

It was also game over for their stores in Congleton and Buxton, which also shut down at the same time.

But unlike those nearby towns, Macclesfield has had GAME rejoin the town this year.

However, their opening is in a different form to before.

You'd be forgiven for not knowing, as it is not signposted outside, but GAME opened inside Sports Direct on Pickford Street in the first quarter of the year.

Just head up the escalators and head left to see the video game retailer inside Sports Direct.

The store-within-a-store appears to be the current tactic used by the British retailer, who have done a similar move in Stockport this year.

Coffee#1 opened their doors on Mill Street in January, where River Island used to be.

They have over 100 sites across the country, and have nearby sites in Buxton and Leek.

MaxiDeals

As Iceland closed on Mill Street, a discount retailer was which to take their place.

London company MaxiDeals opened up in the middle of the year.

They are the newest chain to exist on the list, but are rapidly expanding across the country.

Their Macclesfield store is located at 27-29 Mill St, Macclesfield SK11 6NE.

The most recent entry on the list, as they get ready to open, with renovations ongoing, is Lounges.

The Panadero Lounge is the latest opening from UK cafe-bar chain Lounges.

They have sites in Stockport, Buxton, Wilmslow and Glossop.

And they are preparing to open inside where Poundland used to be on Mill Street.
