Macclesfield & Bollington United Reformed Church is home to a warm and welcoming community. Located in the heart of Macclesfield town centre the recently refurbished church sees around 40 people in the congregation, on average each week for services led by passionate ministers and lay preachers.
The congregation has an open and friendly ethos and the numerous pastoral groups, open to members and non-members.
The overall purpose of the role is to provide administrative support to the Elders of the Church in order to ensure the smooth running of Macclesfield & Bollington URC
Main Duties
- Managing church emails, correspondence and phone calls, directing queries to the relevant person as necessary
- Assist in the preparation and distribution of agendas and minutes of Elders' and Church meetings, papers for the AGM and the Annual Report
- Preparing resources for Sunday worship
- Prepare and send communications to ensure members of the Church are kept informed of Church activities
- Maintain the Church's website, social media pages and internal and external noticeboards
- Coordinate activities e.g. rotas, rites of passage and church bookings, arrangements with ministers, contractors and other users of the Church. Occasional attendance at events, as required
- Respond to email and telephone booking enquiries for our premises. Send out contracts to new hirers, liaise with regular hirers and update the online bookings calendar. Liaise with the Caretaker and Treasurer regarding the month's hiring
- To work alongside the Elders in ensuring that all policies, risk assessments and subscriptions for licences are kept up to date
- Assist the Property Chair in booking contractors for work needed and for annual servicing and inspections. Maintain first aid equipment
- Order and maintain stocks of office and church supplies
- To undertake other tasks and initiatives as agreed with the Elders.

Requirements
- Be sympathetic to the principles of the United Reformed Church, but do not have to be a practising member of the denomination
- Be self-motivated and good at managing your own time and work requirements
- Previous experience in a professional administrative environment
- Be a good communicator with good written and spoken English
- Be a confident user of standard office IT such as Word, Excel and email and be prepared to upgrade IT skills as necessary
- Be confident in using social media platforms for publicity and communications. g. You should be prepared for flexibility to normal working hours, with occasional evenings/weekends
This hybrid role requires some work in the church office each week and will be particularly suitable for applicants from the Macclesfield area.
The job requirements will flex and adapt depending on the needs of the Church community.
