Electrical and Instrument Designer

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Electrical & Instrument Designer on behalf of our client, with the role based in Macclesfield, Cheshire. This is a contract position, and the successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the local projects team by providing expert Electrical & Instrument Design and Consulting Services. The position reports to the Term Framework Design Manager within the Engineering & Design Department.

This role demands a high level of autonomy and strong communication skills, complemented by a solid background in technical engineering design.

Location: Macclesfield (3 days per week) / Hybrid (2 days WFH) Contract Type: 3 months + Rate : £42-48/hr Outside IR35

Key Projects: • Extensive flow and pressure monitoring project • Upgrade of effluent plant to PLC control • Upgrade of process plant to DCS • Role Detail Description • The Senior Electrical & Instrument Designer will collaborate closely with the Multi Discipline Design Team and Project Manager to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of pharmaceutical projects.

Key responsibilities include: • Reviewing and assessing customer needs • Providing resource estimates for design-related activities • Producing reports, scopes of work, concept designs, and detailed designs (Typically RIBA 2-4) • Supporting the effective delivery of projects to time, quality, and cost targets while managing multiple tasks and priorities • Producing documentation in accordance with defined standards and quality requirements • Liaising with design and equipment subcontractors • Leading performance improvements by seeking and applying innovative solutions • Interfacing with other disciplines such as Mechanical, Process, HVAC, and Civil • Attending the Macclesfield office 3 days per week to meet client and installation team requirements

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience: • Minimum 5 years of relevant design experience, including successful delivery of electrical installation designs • HNC or Degree in a technical engineering-related subject • Membership in a professional institution or similar body is desirable • Experience in UK pharmaceutical construction projects is desirable but not essential • Knowledge of E&I design best practices and project lifecycle experience (Concept through detail design to construction support) • Familiarity with data and administrative management practices and procedures • Sound understanding of CDM Regulations 2015 • Capability to undertake site surveys • Collaborative skills and experience working as part of a multi-discipline team • Ability to work independently or as part of a team, liaising comfortably with client representatives • Strong communication and organisational skills • Provision of 2D and 3D Design Deliverables, including GAs, equipment layouts, and cable/containment routing diagrams • Single line diagrams, earthing diagrams, cable block diagrams, instrument loop diagrams, Honeywell BMS interface diagrams • Experience in electrical building services design, including LV Distribution, Lighting, Small Power, Fire Safety Systems, Security Systems, Structured Cabling, etc.

Software Proficiency: • AutoCAD LT • Relux/Dialux • Electrical OM Cable Sizing Software / Trimble pro-design • Navisworks • Revit (Not essential) • Microsoft Office Suite
