Bollington Printshop have started 2024 with their fourth-ever hire.
Whether you are a business owner, artist, planning a big event or looking for a personal Bollington Printshop have your design and print needs covered. And now, doing business with them will be more seamless than ever as they have added a fourth staff member to their workforce.
Local resident M Cox has joined Bollington Printshop.
In recent years, Charlie Lunn has also joined the team, and now demand has required another hire which is where M comes in.
Macclesfield Nub News sat down with M and Charlie to find out more.
"I rented a desk here for a while in my old job", said M.
"Vikki had mentioned that she needed admin help.
"So I rang Vikki and said 'I'm the help you need'.
"I actually went to Dean Valley Primary School [in Bollington] with Matt, we both went to Tytherington School as well."
"I will be doing things like managing customer orders and behind the scenes spreadsheets."
"Everything is running smoother with M, for sure," said Charlie.
"I started working here in the middle of 2022.
"It came to be because I needed a part-time job, and they needed a new member of staff. And we all knew each other, I was a customer here first. I had been for three years getting my [fine art] prints done here. We had been friends I guess!"
From having two staff members in 2018, to four in 2024, it is a small business success story for the company, now that they are able to expand their staff to four.
"M is here to help with the systemisation of the business," said Vikki.
"That is a great thing for the customer as it makes the process from start to finish easier, smoother, more efficient."
"Having M and Charlie here massively helps Matt and I."
"M is an Excel genius," proclaimed Matt.
M also has a great rapport with customers as well.
"I'm like an extension of what Matt does", added Charlie.
"I do design work, printing work, finishing work. When jobs come in, they will get divided up. Matt has been here since 1998 so ones that fit his experience more, he will do, the ones that are a bit easier will come to me.
"I also do lots of photo restoration stuff because I love doing that. People are bringing their family photos in on word of mouth."
"There's so much more to Bollington Printshop than I realised before I joined," confessed M.
"The fine art prints are huge here. I still get my mind blown by people saying they didn't know we are here.
"We had someone come in the other day who lives around the corner and said 'I can't believe I didn't know you were here.' They must have walked past the building hundreds of times.
"There is so much to learn, and so much more that we do that we need to tell people about."
The ground floor of the business serves as a gift shop for the community, and is also where many customers start their enquiries.
"Making people's greetings cards can also be really fun," Charlie also said.
"I can appreciate what they want, because I look at it from an artist's point of view. And seeing customers be really appreciative of the job as well is really nice."
Despite our world becoming more digitally connected, interest in print remains, figures from IBISWorld suggests the number of printing business in the UK has remained 'steady over the past five years'.
Bollington Printshop is one of 8941 print companies in the country.
When asked about what has surprised her about her new job, M had this to say: "I was surprised when one day my daughter was in, and Matt carried down a canvas that was double her size!"
Bollington Printshop also do their but for the community, from printing the community magazine Bollington Live to sponsoring Macclesfield Nub News.
Matt has also launched a new design service called Tattoo Parlour.
"We've potentially had the biggest January we have ever had," Vikki shared.
"The advertising of our January offer did well to attract new business.
"We want to do more community-based offers. I want us to be a community-based shop for everybody. I've got more offers in the pipeline.
"In terms of trying to make printing really affordable to artists where they don't have to order loads, we want to offer the same to sports groups, drama groups things like that so they are really benefiting from our services and not just paying us essentially."
