A choir which has raised an astounding amount for charity, has seen their long-serving director resign.

Following the recent announcement of the resignation of the Musical Director, Kath Ibbotson, Claritas would like to record our thanks to her for all her hard work and unstinting dedication to the choir, and to celebrate her achievements since taking over as Musical Director in April 2012.

Over the last eleven years Kath has worked hard to build the choir up from a small group, singing a cappella, to a membership of approximately 50 singing in three/four part harmony, accompanied by pianist Hilary Balsdon. The choir's repertoire has increased significantly during Kath's musical directorship, allowing us to perform more challenging music and to increase the number of fund-raising concerts.

The first of many large scale concerts was the very successful tenth anniversary concert in 2016, which raised in excess of £2,000 for East Cheshire Hospice. In total, it is estimated that the choir has contributed over £45,000 to the East Cheshire Hospice during the past eleven years.

Although we are losing Kath, and we know that Claritas will never be the same without her, our loyalty to the Hospice means that we are determined to continue singing! To this end, we have been busy rehearsing for a number of Christmas events for the local community and invite you to join us for our main concert in Macclesfield which will be held at the United Reformed Church in Park Green on Thursday 14 December 2023 at 7.30 pm. The programme will celebrate Christmas by including carols and Christmas songs, both old and new. We should be delighted if you could join us. Tickets are £8 for adults and £5 for those aged under 18, available in advance from the Tourist Information Centre and choir members, or on the door. As always, refreshments will be available.

Claritas will also be appearing at the annual "Light Up a Life" service arranged by East Cheshire Hospice which will take place at The United Reformed Church in Park Green on Saturday 2 December 2023 at 4.00 pm. This short service will be a chance to remember lost loved ones and will be suitable for those of all faiths and none. Tickets are not required. Further details available from East Cheshire Hospice, telephone 01625 610364.

Although Kath will be a hard act to follow, we are hoping that there is someone out there who would like to lead Claritas forward in 2024! If you are interested in hearing more about the role of Musical Director of Claritas, please contact [email protected]  We should love to hear from you.

The Choir rehearses once a week during term time in Macclesfield. New members are always welcome - anyone interested in joining the choir can find more details on the website www.claritaschoir.com.
