Bollington fish and chips café and takeaway Pappa's under new management
A historic Bollington takeaway has a new man at the helm.
Sadi Batmaz is the new owner of Pappa's in Bollington.
Sadi, a former customer of the Palmerston Street eatery, is delighted to have become the new owner of the business.
"Pappa's started as a business 33 years ago by a lovely Greek-Cypriot family," he said.
"The business then moved to Bollington in the late 2000s.
"The family have since retired, but still own the building.
"I used to work as a chef few doors down at [former Italian restaurant] Briscola, eight years ago.
"I was a regular customer of Pappa's. I used to visit them for kebabs after work. They were delicious, I loved to customise them.
"And our relationship has stuck like a friend. Eight months ago I started the conversation about taking over here.
"It is great to be back in Bollington."
And fast-forward to today, Sadi has moved in, opened up the delicious Bollington business.
Many of the charms of the previous business are here, including the Mediterranean flavours, as Sadi is from Turkey.
And given the fact he used to cook for an Italian restaurant a few doors down, he will introduce Italian flavours into the business soon, by launching an Italian takeaway menu in the near future.
"I did not want to change the name to respect the history of the business," said Sadi.
"I have made small changes to the menu, and would love to make some more in the future.
"We will also get ourselves on the delivery apps soon too."
The opening hours are currently Tuesday to Thursday 5pm to 9pm, and Friday to Saturday to 5pm and 9:30pm.
So if you end up at one of the two pubs in the street, you will not be far from some late night food.
Sadi also hopes to make some slight changes to the opening hours in the near future.
And the community-supporting charms have been retained too. With free sweets for kids at the counter, and a charity pot for The Christie Macclesfield.
People can sit in, or take out for the same price. And if you are eating in at their five tables, it is bring your own booze, so you can enjoy a meal out while saving money.
Their menu ranges from chippy favourites, to meatballs, to salad.
Specific dietary requirements can be catered for.
For example, Sadi will retain the more recent tradition of gluten free nights as well.
The business has also been a keen supporter of recent campaigns against cuts in Bollington.
For those outside of Bollington, you may know Sadi from being the former head chef at The Robin Hood Rainow, which was his last position before taking the helm at Pappa's.
With the tasty prospect of seeing the business into its 35th year, Sadi is hopeful, and grateful for the future.
