A Macclesfield squash player is crowdfunding to cover costs to play in the first World Championship since the pandemic.

Pro squash player Emily Whitlock (28), who was born in our town, has started a small gofundme page to help cover costs associated with the American tournament.

Em has earned money as a personal trainer during the pandemic, however, she is itching to get back to competing in squash.

Emily is seeking a little help to get her to Chicago next month, to compete in the 2021 Squash World Championship.

It will be the first Squash World Championship held since November 2019.

"I'm a professional squash player currently ranked 28 in the world (highest world ranking of 12 before injury problems) and am struggling to afford to play tournaments during these COVID times," said Emily.

"I made one of these fundraisers before the last event I played to help me raise money for extra COVID tests.

"The money raised to help me pay for COVID tests made it less stressful, so to be as stress free as possible, I thought I'd do another one ahead of my next tournament."

The PSA Squash World Championships, are due to be held at the University Club of Chicago from July 14-22.

The right-handed Manxonian now resides in Colwyn Bay. She is coached by her father Phil Whitlock, who once reached a highest World Ranking of eight.

"I would never make another page to raise money for things like flights and visas because those are things I would have to factor in for tournaments anyway," Em added.

"But with multiple COVID tests, transport and hotel for three nights before we get hotel as part of the tournament. I could just do with a bit of help to pay for these things.

"Normally I'd stay somewhere cheaper but I don't think it's sensible to move from place to place so ideally I'd like to stay in the same room for my entire stay."

The crowdfunder, which has just launched, has currently raised £50 of £780 goal.

Em has won 162 of her 268 professional games.

The squash player has a win ratio of over 60 percent, and wants you to back her next performance at the World Championships.
