Two women from Macclesfield have started a new project, in a bid to provide a safe space for women to receive support.

The women's circle is an ancient practice that can be described as a safe, intimate space for women to share, grow and heal.

Now, Macclesfield has a new women's circle.

Imogen Dalton, a self-employed writer and holistic therapist, came up with the idea and has joined forces with her friend Kadie Waszkowycz, who works at Macclesfield's Acadia Tattoo Studio, to make their idea a reality.

The new women's circle will meet on the first Sunday and third Wednesday of every month. (So the next session is this Sunday, April 6).

Both women had been inspired to start this project locally, after attending an event together along similar lines, and thought about how they would do things differently.

Each month will have a different theme, and after receiving input from the previous session, will next be focusing on being grateful for the present.

The idea behind the women's circle is to help women cope with the pressures of social media and disconnection within the community.

"Each circle will differ slightly and be themed in ways such as 'self-love', 'releasing', 'creativity'," said Imogen.

The new venture is open to anyone who identifies as a woman, with each circle costing £10 to attend. (Image - Macclesfield Nub News)

"There will also be other new themes as the months go by.

"We want people to be able to connect with each other, to experience sharing wisdom and helping each other".

She believes that there is a necessity for connection more so than ever, especially after the COVID-19 lockdown and its aftermath.

"This practice is more important now than ever," Imogen said.

"Women feel the pressure to comply with social media's influence and comparison, as they cope with struggles mentally, emotionally and financially and after the pandemic, with the after effect of such disconnection from our community."

"Whenever women gather in such a way it supports them, and therefore enhances their life within their family and the wider community."

"The long-term goal for me is very much to reach as many different people as I can, and for people to feel accepted."

"People that came to the last one who hadn't met each other before, left feeling positive and as though they made good connections, excited to connect again."

There will be a capacity cap on the sessions to keep a sense of closeness between one another. (Image - Macclesfield Nub News)

The meet up is held twice a month and costs £10 per session to attend.

Each session will last an hour and a half, and will feature a variety of different activities.

They both want it to be accessible to as many people as possible.

For Kadie, "It doesn't matter who you are, it doesn't matter what you believe, if you into spirituality or if you don't believe in anything, you don't have to, it's a space for people with no judgement and everything stays in the circle."

Women's circles is a tradition older than Macclesfield itself, thought to date back to prehistory. (Image - Macclesfield Nub News)

The women's circle will be held at Acadia Tattoo Studio, on Roe Street in Macclesfield.

They will meet on the first Sunday and third Wednesday of every month.

The new women's circle is open to anyone who identifies as a woman.

Acadia has previously done campaigns for charity, so this female empowerment and wellness push is right within their wheelhouse.

They have 300 followers on Instagram, and recently created a Facebook page.
