ART IMITATING POLITICAL LIFE AT MACCLESFIELD'S THEATRE
When award-winning writer Steve Thompson brought 'Feed the Beast' to the stage in 2015, David Cameron's Conservative Party had just regained power with a majority government. Since then the media has kept politicians and party politics, front and centre on our screens. MADS theatre company brings it all to life on the Macclesfield stage with performances from Monday 25th – 30th April at the Lord Street theatre.Tony Blair was quoted as saying: "Today's media is like a feral beast, just tearing people and reputations to bits"; and that is just what MADS' brings to the stage, in this witty, fast-paced production. The spotlight on politics never dims, and many of the themes within 'Feed the Beast' will resonate with the audience as they imitate today's political ups and downs, seen through the eyes of the media.
Local actor Pete Munro never leaves the stage, in his excellent portrayal of the new Prime Minister Michael Goodlad. The new PM is ostensibly a good guy, but the die is cast with his early demand to the new Press Secretary, Scott, played by Andy Cantillon: "Don't feed the beast". Director, Luke Oldham, has assembled a strong cast of local actors, to play out this political satire, many of whom play multiple character roles.Macclesfield's Member of Parliament, David Rutley, will be attending one of the performances; he will no doubt be reporting back on how accurate the representation is, to life in Westminster, but as an evening's entertainment it's a vote winner. Tickets for all performances, until Saturday 30th April, are available at: www.madstheatre.org.
