The numbers were looking worrying in Macclesfield last week, but a decline of 121 cases is great news, despite fears that July 19's 'Freedom Day' would increase cases.

There were 163 active cases in Macc three weeks ago. Last week, there was 449, as of the seven days to July 16.

The latest data, which was collected after 'Freedom Day', suggests there are at least 328 active cases in our town as of July 24.

There may still be a little increase next week, as COVID-19 symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus, and we are only five days from 'Freedom Day' with this data.

Listed below are the figures for the seven days to July 24 for cases, and July 28 for vaccinations

Brackets reveal the increase or decrease since numbers revealed last week, which were the seven days until July 16.

Macclesfield: Testing is easier to get than ever, and may also be a reason for the decline. There was even a pop-up testing site at Macclesfield Rugby Club on Priory Lane yesterday.

Overall figures for our borough are also on the decline.

In Cheshire East, 142 new people had a confirmed positive test result reported on 29 July 2021.

Between 23 July 2021 and 29 July 2021, 1,065 people had a confirmed positive test result. This shows a decrease of -43.5% compared to the previous 7 days.

It is not all good news however, hospitalisations have more than doubled.

There were 14 patients in hospital with coronavirus on 27 July 2021. Three are on a ventilator.

This is an increase of six patients in hospital with coronavirus in East Cheshire NHS Trust hospitals on July 13, two of which then being on ventilators.

For data protection reasons, it is not known the precise location of residence for locals who were hospitalised.

The increase is in line with national trends. 705 were admitted to hospital on July 17 in the UK, whereas 932 was admitted on 25 July.

Between 23 July 2021 and 29 July 2021, there have been 4 Cheshire East deaths within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test. This shows an increase of 33.3% compared to the previous 7 days.
