A Macclesfield brewer is doing their bit for charity, with their latest creation.

Wincle Beer Company Ltd, has decided to create a beer for a charity which serves the Macclesfield area.

As well as being a delicious new beer, Frost Bitten is a a fundraiser for Buxton Mountain Rescue Team.

Frost Blitten is named after the Buxton Mountain Rescue President Nigel Vardy, who lost fingers, toes and his nose in a blizzard in Alaska. He battled temperatures of -60 degrees Celsius on North America's highest mountain, before being rescued by American mountain rescuers.

The new tipple is a 4.5% ABV golden, dry hopped English ale.

20p from every bottle sold will be going to Buxton Mountain Rescue Team, who will rescue any hikers that get lost or injured on Macclesfield beauty spots like Shutlingsloe or the Three Shires Head.

"We are delighted to unveil our fundraising beer for a charity close to our hearts on behalf of Buxton Mountain Rescue."

"The beer will help celebrate their 60th Anniversary in 2024, and raise vital funds to contribute to supporting Buxton Mountain Rescue into their next 60 years.

"We came together and designed the beer with members of the team. We were looking for a golden beer with predominantly English characteristics and a bit of citrus, I think we have come up trumps with the recipe.

"It is really nice, has a great drinkability, the hop comes through nicely without being over the top.

"Apart from the fact it is really nice beer, we are helping a vital charity do some fantastic work. It is particularly pertinent for us here in Wincle in the Peak District - we have a lot of walkers around here and I myself am a key hill walker.

"I think they do a brilliant job and they are well worth supporting. These guys put their lives at risk every day, and are doing it for nothing.

"It is a service people depend on, and we think is something worth celebrating with this new beer. So let's all raise a glass to these incredible volunteers."

Nigel, who is a Macclesfield resident, is elated with the beer featuring his image and story.

"Frost Bitten is absolutely fantastic thank you to Giles and all the team at Wincle Brewery," said Nigel.

"Not just that is nice for me but it is great for the team. The team came up with it, it promotes the team, which I am happy to do as president. And it raises money for the team, and as far as I am concerned as President that is wonderful to see.

"I could drink quite a bit of this!"

Nigel, who can be booked as a motivational speaker, also celebrated his 55th birthday at the beer's launch on Monday.

"We do a lot of work on Shutlingsloe, Tegg's Nose, those parts of Macclesfield," told Nigel.

"We are there for you 365 days of the year 24 hours of the day for free, to help people, save lives and get them safely home.

"Thank you to Giles and Wincle for supporting us it is a really wonderful thing to do.

When pressed about doing a charity fundraiser in the midst of a cost of living crisis, Giles had this to say:

"It is all part of being part of the community. It is very important we support charities," he explained.

"Thank you to everyone who has been involved so far. Also, there has been a few takers in pubs in Macclesfield already which we are so grateful for.

"The Castle in Macclesfield and The Poachers Inn in Bollington has took Frost Bitten on, but I suspect by the time you are reading this it might have all gone now!"

It is not known how long this beer will be sold for, but there's already plans for a second brew.
