Cheshire East Council has just voted for the mayor-elect for 2024/25.
Crewe councillor Marilyn Houston (Lab) was nominated as mayor-elect and Macclesfield councillor David Edwardes (Ind) as deputy mayor.
The formal election for mayor and deputy mayor will take place at the council's annual general meeting in May.
Inauguration is at The Tenants Hall, Tatton Park on May 15.
It could mean that the Tytherington representative could be Cheshire East Council's Mayor in 2025/26, though this is not guaranteed.
The last Cheshire East Mayor to be from the Macclesfield area was Lesley Smetham in 2018/19.
Cllr Edwardes is no stranger to being a ceremonial Mayor, as he was Macclesfield's Mayor from 2021/22, which was a Macclesfield Town Council role.
Now, in this Cheshire East Council role, the Deputy Mayor is expected to support the Mayor as the Deputy Mayor until May 2026.
The Mayor attends a variety of engagements throughout the civic year including parades, civic receptions and general visits.
It is a different role from council leadership, with the Mayor being a more historic title.
