Tributes have been paid to Ian Curtis, the singer-songwriter of Joy Division who died 41 years ago today.

The former King's School alumni was found dead in his Macclesfield home on 77 Barton Street, on May 18 1980.

He died aged just 23, having hung himself in his kitchen that evening.

Joy Division members and associates have paid tribute to the man who penned She's Lost Control and Love Will Tear Us Apart.

This evening, former Joy Division member Peter Hook will host a 'listening party' on the social media website Twitter. The bassist will share his stories of their debut album Unknown Pleasures, to honour his friend.

The official Joy Division social media accounts led tributes today, with the comment "Ian, we will remember you forever."

Photographer Kevin Cummins, who took iconic shots of Curtis and the band, quoted a 1988 Bob Dylan song, in tribute to Ian.

He said: "When you're standing on the crossroads that you cannot comprehend, just remember that death is not the end.

"And all your dreams have vanished and you don't know what's up the bend, just remember that death is not the end".

Ex-Joy Division drummer Stephen Morris simply tweeted a photo with the caption "Ian-Altrincham 1979".

Former Joy Division guitarist Bernard Sumner does not use Twitter, and has not made a public statement.

However, New Order, which still contains Joy Division members Sumner and Morris, simply posted on their social media: "Our friend forever, Ian Curtis."

Ian's family have also not made any comment.
