CHESHIRE HISTORY DAY: HISTORIANS LOOK TO THE FUTURE

History and Archaeology enthusiasts will have the chance to spend a whole day pursuing their interests when Cheshire Local History Association holds its latest annual conference on Saturday 19 October.

Cheshire History Day, to be held at the splendid Grange Theatre, Bradburns Lane, Hartford, is on the subject of 'The Future of Cheshire's Past' and features talks by archivists, archaeologists and historians, as well as bookstalls and displays by local societies.

Paul Newman, Archives and Heritage Manager who is leading the project to relocate Cheshire Archives, will explain the future of the service as it seeks to appeal to a wider range of people interested in exploring the past.

Mark Leah, the county's Senior Historic Environment Planning Officer, will look at how recent archaeological discoveries have changed our perceptions of Chester and Middlewich. He will be followed by Susie White, a Liaison Officer for the Portable Antiquities Scheme, who will show how local groups can help in discovering and reporting archaeological finds.

Graeme White and Sharon Varey, editors of the county journal Cheshire History, will round off the day with a light-hearted look at how it is has evolved over the decades, and how it might develop in the future.

Further information on the event is on the Cheshire Local History Association website (www.cheshirehistory.org.uk), with details of how to book tickets.
