A Macclesfield businesswoman has expanded her performing arms brand into a bigger and better studio.

Nicola Crooks, of Perform Studios, has moved in to a newly-furnished studio in central Macclesfield.

Located where Sylk Dance Academy used to be, her new premises is on Union Street.

The site has two new studios inside. So the new space has allowed her to take her newer brand, Macclesfield Musical Theatre Troupe, to the next level, which will operate at the same site alongside Perform Studios.

Nicola used to operate classes from The Fallibroome Academy - where she used to go to school - but is now delighted to have her own space.

"Because we have our own space, we can now do more classes", said Nicola.

"So alongside Perform with Nicola, we will have 28 classes running each week after the half-term, with the addition of Macclesfield Musical Theatre Troupe, which is for singing, acting, dancing and performing for children.

"We've also introduced adult dance classes for the first time as well.

Nicola and seven other teachers will also use her new space.

Sixth formers also help out in the classes to help further their careers.

A performing arts graduate, and mother of a child in to the performing arts, Nicola has lived in Macclesfield all her life.

And having her own space, is the culmination of a lifetime love of the performing arts.

"I have always been quite musical", added Nicola.

"I grew up in north west Macclesfield, playing the flute and then one day my teacher told me 'you can sing'.

"I did drama at university, became a primary school teacher, then started teaching private singing lessons after my little boy was born. Then I set up Perform with Nicola in early 2018, and MMTT in 2021.

"I think the performing arts is one of the best things you can do for your child. People think it is just prancing about and singing a bit of a song. But it isn't. It is actually extremely disciplined.

"The children have to learn their lines, they have to turn up on time for rehearsals, they have to work as a team. There are hundreds of things they have to do.

"They learn to work with all different age groups, so it is really good for building their communication skills and confidence as well. It is also a great way to make new friends.

"The performing arts give you actual life skills that you can use in jobs. A lot of the younger ones get sent here because they want to build their child's confidence, and they come out with a load of life skills.

"And most importantly, I want them to have a great time."

Nicola, who lives near Macclesfield Hospital, will be giving everyone the chance to try out what her new studio has to offer at zero cost.

That's because this weekend, your little ones can try out the new space for FREE.

On Saturday 30th September 2023, there will be three FREE dance workshops from 11am-3pm. Macclesfield media company Flownamix will also be doing free headshots for little actors and dancers.

The all-ages afternoon will also have live singers, an open mic for you to take part in, and refreshments (though please bring cash for these drinks).

Beyond tomorrow's open day, Nicola gave a rallying message to Macclesfield regarding the performing arts:

"I want the performing arts to be accessible for everybody", explained Nicola.

"Sessions range from 90 minutes for the youngest performers, to two hours for older children.

"Costumes are included within the price, and a lot of dance schools costumes are not included within the fee.

"We have a variety of payment options as well. I think it is important as many people as possible can join us, so we offer two free scholarships as well.
