Macclesfield Museum, who manage The Silk Museum, Paradise Mill, The Old Sunday School (and the shut West Park Museum), have opened an appeal for volunteers.

Maxonians of any age can offer their time, and feel great, helping out at the historic Macclesfield organisation.

The cites which celebrate our town's heritage rely on donors, trusts, foundations and companies to fund them, so payment is unable to be offered for a helping hand.

However, they will be able to provide a reference and the feeling of helping out in our town's community museums will feel rewarding.

Volunteers are wanted for The Silk Museum and Paradise Mill, which are located next to each other on Park Lane.

They are open from Wednesday to Saturday from 10-4pm, if you have any free time to help out then.

The museums are looking for volunteers who are interested in heritage to come and help out with a variety of tasks, including Front of House and serving in the Tea Shop.

So if you are a young person struggling to get a job in a café, why not get some voluntary work experience at the reputable institution first?

The voluntary role would also be perfect for retired people, or those who want to do something rewarding at the weekend.

Director at Macclesfield Museums, Emma Anderson, says: "We really need help! If you can spare a day or two a week or even an afternoon it would be hugely helpful.

"Saturdays and Wednesdays are particularly busy, so it those days suit someone then we would love to hear from you. It is a really friendly place to work and there's always a lot going on."

Volunteers are also asked to undertake other duties from time to time to help. If you have an interest in museums then this is a great place to volunteer, as there are opportunities to learn about the collections and the social history of the silk industry in Macclesfield.

The company also hire regularly. So the voluntary role may - but not be guaranteed - to turn into a job.
