A release date has been announced for the new project of Macclesfield musician Phil Cunningham.

Synthpop five-piece Sea Fever includes Macc-born Phil Cunningham on guitar, who were formed last year.

Their debut album Folding Lines has been postponed on multiple occasions, but will finally release on October 22.

Guitarist Phil Cunningham was born in 1974, and first rose to fame in Macclesfield Britpop group Marion.

Cunningham, who lived in Sutton, would later join the Macclesfield and Manchester band New Order.

Sea Fever have released three singles thus far, all in 2021. Their debut album is just three months away.

The indie rock supergroup also contains bandmates of Johnny Marr and Noel Gallagher.

They have over 50,000 streams on Spotify, and their song Crossed Wires can be listened to above.

It echoes electronic-era Belle & Sebastian, and fuses intelligent electronics and clanging guitars.

It is unknown if any of the previously released singles will release on Folding Lines.

"Unfortunately, the impact that the last 18 months has had on supply chains has meant that lots of physical releases have been delayed and frustratingly, now it's our turn," said Sea Fever.

"Our debut album Folding Lines was planned for release in August but will now be out on Friday October 22."

Phil will still play with New Order, who have only released one new song since their 2015 album Music Complete. Sea Fever offers Phil the chance to play and help compose new music for the first time this decade.

Macclesfield Nub News has contacted Sea Fever for comment.

Other members from the band are from Kent, Blackpool and nearby Stockport.

You can watch Sea Fever at the Night & Day Café in Manchester on August 13. Tickets are here.

This gig 20 miles from Macc was meant to be their album launch party, before the just announced delay.

The band have found famous fans such as BBC Radio DJ Chris Hawkins and actor Robert Carlyle.
