The mayor of Macclesfield has welcomed an investment in the Rugby Drive playing fields following the "persistence" of the Tytherington Juniors football club secretary.

Funding was granted to the scheme following a campaign by Tytherington Juniors secretary, Matt O'Brien who described the state of the playing fields as a "laughing stock".

Cheshire East Council has welcomed the announcement this week of £15.5 million of the Getting Building Fund for investment in schemes in Cheshire and Warrington, one of which is a new Validation Centre of Excellence at Alderley Park near Macclesfield.

The Council has worked with Cheshire and Warrington Local Enterprise Partnership (C+W LEP) to identify 'shovel-ready' infrastructure projects that will support sub-regional economic recovery and local businesses, as set out in the Government's 'New Deal' programme for Britain.

East Cheshire NHS Trust staff are playing a vital role in a major trial to see if bio-detection dogs can sniff out coronavirus in humans.

The trial, led by the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) in collaboration with the charity Medical Detection Dogs and Durham University, will determine whether dogs could be used as a new rapid, non-invasive diagnostic tool for the virus. The first phase is funded by the Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC).
